Resources for Flash and ActionScript development
I'm often asked how to get started in Flash or where to learn more about ActionScript.
There are two main prongs to learning multimedia development with Flash. The first prong is learning the Flash authoring tool, including basics such as animation and content development (audio, video, etc.) The second prong is application development with ActionScript (Flash's scripting language). ActionScript is similar to JavaScript and lets you do everything from control animations to adding simple interactivity to programming complex rich internet applications (including business applications, such as a financial calculator).
Thankfully, there are a lot of good books on the subject, including many that I edited.
There is also a broad, deep, and friendly online Flash developer community. If you are looking for other online resources, see http://moock.org/moockmarks.
And there is a new Flash/ActionScript study group in NYC (see FlashCodersNY.org).
If you are of a political mind, see the Bush in 30 Years contest (bushin30years.org).
